Mike Haley of Sale Sharks celebrates with his team

Sale Sharks booked a place in the European Challenge Cup quarter finals by beating Newport Gwent Dragons 38-5 in Pool Two at the AJ Bell Stadium.

Sale outscoered the Dragons by five tries to one in the contest earning them the bonus point and allowing them to finish as Pool Two winners.

As winners of the Pool Sale Sharks will have a home quarter final in Salford.

The match was all but won by half time as Sale were leading 24-0 at the whistle after Brian Mujati and Josh Beaumont had scored tries either side of a penalty try.

Unwanted England flyhalf Danny Cipriani scored 11 points and put in another fine performance and set up Nev Edwards for a try before the Dragons sent over Ashton Hewitt for a consolation try.

Sale Sharks fifth and final try was scored by fullback Mike Haley.

Newport had already qualified for the knockout stages so they too will progress to the last eight in the Challenge Cup.
