Reds v Waratahs Super Rugby Preview

Out of the last five Super Rugby matches between the Reds and the Waratahs the New South Wales side have won two and the Reds three.

Overall the Reds have played the Waratahs 23 times since 1996 and the Reds have won 13 matches and lost 9. There was also a draw in 1998.

Those 13 victories give the Reds a record of winning 57% of their matches against the Waratahs with an average score of : Reds 19 Waratahs 20.

This weekend the match will be played in Brisbane which is home for the Reds and where the teams have met 12 times.

In those 12 Brisbane matches the Reds have won 7 times, lost four times and the one draw was in Brisbane.

These results give the Reds a record of winning 58% of their matches against the Waratahs in Brisbane with an average score of : Reds 21 Waratahs 19.

The last two matches – including the last one in Brisbane – were both won by the Waratahs.

In terms of form the Reds have played three matches to date and they have won one. The only victory was at home against the Western Force so they are unbeaten in Brisbane.

The Waratahs have played just two matches as they had a bye last week. In their opening round they were beaten at home but then beat the Rebels in Melbourne in Round 2 so they have had mixed results.

In selection terms for this match the Reds have made two changes to the side that lost to the Highlanders with James Horwill and Ben Tapuai returning to the team.

The Waratahs have also made two changes and regular starter Adam Ashley-Cooper is injured so he is replaced by Matt Carraro while David Dennis and Will Skelton have changed sides of the scrum.

The match will be a special occasion for Benn Robinson as he will overtake Phil Waugh as the most capped Waratahs player of all time with his 137th cap.

The Bookies have given the Reds a 7 point start for this Match – with an offer of a FREE $150 BET. While both teams have had mixed results the Waratahs still have most of a championship winning side and they appeared to have shrugged off their opening round rustiness in their second match. The Waratahs should win this by 9.

This Match will be shown on TV in NZ, Aus, SA and in the UK on Sky Sports 3/HD.
