Former Wallaby O’Connor hit with mystery illness

James O'Connor has returned to training with Toulon

Former Wallabies star back James O’Connor is undergoing tests after being hit with a mystery illness according to his club Toulon.

The versatile back, who mostly plays at full-back or wing for the European champions, was taken to hospital after coming down with the illness last weekend following Toulon’s 43-13 win at Oyonnax.

The 25-year-old underwent tests, the results of which proved “reassuring and satisfying” according to Toulon, allowing him to leave hospital.

The club’s medical staff will continue to monitor O’Connor and do more tests to try to discover the nature of his problem.

He is currently out of reckoning for club action but Toulon said that his career was not at risk.
