England drop Cipriani from Rugby World Cup squad

England head coach Stuart Lancaster has told Danny Cipriani that he will not
be included in England’s squad for the 2015 Rugby World Cup.

Cipriani impressed on both of England’s Rugby World Cup warm up matches and
had widespread support for his inclusion in the squad especially after he came
on in the second half against France in Paris.

The 27-year-old Sale fly-half was named man of the match in Paris even though
he only played for 17 minutes after coming on as a replacement.

Instead of Cipriani, Lancaster is now expected to name George Ford and Owen
Farrell as his fly halves and Mike Brown and Andy Goode as his fullbacks.

Cipriani’s versatility proved to be his curse in the same way that Austin Healey
narrowly missed out on the 2003 Rugby World Cup.

Lancaster has 39 players in his current squad and Cipriani is one of the eight players who will miss the cut when Lancaster names his final World Cup squad on Thursday.
