Springboks name team for Wales

South Africa have named their team to play Wales on on Saturday and it includes nine members of their World cup winning team.

This will be their first match as World Champions since beating England. The team includes captain John Smit and star wing Bryan Habana.

Sharks loose forward Ryan Kankowski is the only new cap in the Springbok team that will face Wales on Saturday and he is the only player in the starting XV who was not a member of the World Cup squad in France.

Three other players who were not in France are on the bench. They are Conrad Jantjes, Heinke Van Der Merwe and Hilton Lobberts.

The squad is still fairly strong and features names like JP Pietersen, Jaque Fourie, Francois Steyn, Juan Smith, Schalk Burger, Bakkies Botha and CJ van der Linde. Victor Matfield opted out of the tour and is one of thirteen who did not make the tour.

The Boks will be weakened in the midfield as they will not have their first choice combination of Butch James and Fourie du Preez and the combination of Andre Pretorius and Ricky Januarie at No.9 will be tested and kept under pressure by the classy Welsh partnership of James Hook & Dwayne Peel.

This match will be Jake White’s last international test coaching the Springboks as next week the Springboks play the Baabaas at Twickenham which is not classed as an international.
