Nonu stays in union

Ma’a Nonu has turned down a lucrative switch to Sydney rugby league giants Wests Tigers in Australia.

Nonu, currently contracted to the Hurricanes Super 14 franchise in Wellington, was omitted from the All Blacks’ World Cup squad after some indifferent form this season, and announced a desire to switch to rugby league.

The 25-year-old, who has won 18 New Zealand caps over the past four years, relented on his wish though, and was announced as another re-signing by the NZRU on Tuesday, with Tigers’ coach Warren McDonnell saying that Nonu had officially rejected their offer in order to stay with the Hurricanes.
