Kitagawa replaces Ohata in Japan RWC squad

Japan beat Portugal in Treviso on Saturday but suffered a huge blow when the top try-scorer in the world, Daisuke Ohata again ruptured an Achilles.

Ohata, who holds the world record of 69 tries in Tests of which he has played 59, ruptured an Achilles in January and has only recently returned to the game. He will be flying home to Japan on 28 August for an operation.

Sanyo’s Tomoki Kitagawa will take Ohata’s place on the wing. He has nothing like Ohata’s experience as the 24-year-old has played only two Tests.

This is Japan’s second replacement since the squad for the World Cup was initially announced. Toshiba hooker Taku Inokuchi replaced Mitsugu Yamamoto who was injured against the Asian Barbarians in the first of Japan’s three warm-up matches.
