Copsey set for Wasps Chief role

Having been at the club for seven years, Managing Director Tony Copsey is leaving Harlequins to join London Wasps as Chief Executive.

Copsey leaves with praise for his work ringing in his ears, with the Twickenham club saying their fan base had been ‘dramatically increased’, as well as pointing to the legacy of the new stand at the Stoop that was opened in September 2005.

“It was a fantastic opportunity to join Quins when I was offered the chance seven years ago and, aside from those few minutes on the field that resulted in the Club being relegated back in 2005, I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it,” said Copsey.

“It’s been great to see Quins progress both on and off the field during my time at the Club and I believe that we have developed a very strong community between everyone involved in the business; from players and staff to our loyal fans and sponsors.

“I would like to thank everyone involved at Quins, but in particular Charles Jillings (Chairman) and Mark Evans (Chief Executive) for their support in my application for the Chief Executive role at Wasps. It’s going to be difficult to move across London to join one of Quins greatest rivals, but it’s a job that offers a number of new challenges that I’m excited about.

“I’m looking forward to catching up with the many friends I’ve made at Quins at the London Double Header at the start of the new season (September 15), as well as making the trip back to the Stoop – and sharing plenty of banter – when the two sides meet on October 20 in the Guinness Premiership!”

Copsey joined Quins from the Scarlets in 2000.
