Junior ABs head for Japan

The Junior All Blacks will fly to Japan this week for Sunday’s final Pacific Nations Cup match in Tokyo having already sealed the competiton with their recent 50-point thrashing of Australia ‘A’.

The squad will, however, be without the services of co-captain Marty Holah, who is missing the final match because of a family wedding, whilst Kristian Ormsby has left the squad after being a temporary replacement for the Australian match.

Casey Laulala has injured his thumb and he won’t be travelling either.

Co-coach Ian Foster is pleased that three of his squad memebers have received All Black call-ups in the duration of the tournament.

“That was the highlight of the week,” Foster told the NZPA of locks Ross Filipo and Greg Rawlinson and winger Rico Gear’s call-up to the national squad.

“That’s what we’re here for. The more guys we can help promote to the All Blacks, the better. We spoke about that as a team.”

Meanwhile loose forward Sione Lauaki has fought his way back from injury and after a terrific outing against Australia ‘A’, he is ready to clash with the John Kirwan-coached Japanese.

The two sides will meet in Tokyo on Sunday.
