Hurricanes beat Sharks in Wellington

Out of the last five Super Rugby matches between the Wellington based Hurricanes and the Durban based Sharks the Durban side have won four and the Wellington side one.

We are waiting for the kick off.

The Sharks kick off and we are underway. 

1.00:The Sharks win an early penalty so they kick for touch. The Sharks win the line out but get pressed backwards. 

2.00: The Sharks then get the ball out and attack the Hurricanes in the Canes 22 until they knock on. 

4.00: The Sharks keep the Hurricanes under sustained pressure for two minutes but the home side defend and keep them out and push them into touch. 

5.00: The Hurricanes win the line out but lose the ball and the Sharks pounce on it. The Sharks go over the line and Bismarck du Plessis scores. TRY !

6.00: Frans Steyn slots the conversion. 

8.00: There is a break in play for an injury to Sharks fullback Lwazi Mvovo. He comes off for a concussion test and Andre Esterhuizen comes on. 

9.00: The game resumes but is stopped as Lionel Cronje tackles Nehe Milner-Skudder high. He gets a warning and is lucky to stay on but the Hurricanes have a penalty. 

10.00: James Marshall takes the shot at the posts but misses. 

12.00: The Hurricanes go through the phases attacking the Sharks from side to side and they stretch the Sharks and Cory Jane goes over in the corner without being tackled. 

13.00: James Marshall slots the conversion to level the scores. Mvovo is staying off. 

16.00: The Sharks go through 22 phases on attack in the Hurricanes 22 but they can’t get through. We get called back for a penalty for offside to the Sharks. 

18.00:  Lionel Cronje takes the penalty shot and nails it. The Sharks lead again. 

19.00:The Hurricanes set up a line out which they win. The Hurricanes send the ball down the backline and two Sharks slip off Conrad Smith who goes in to score. TRY! 

20.00: James Marshall adds the conversion and the Hurricanes lead again. 

21.00: After the restart Etienne Oosthuizen tackles a Hurricanes play high and is yellow carded after an earlier warning. 

23.00; The Sharks get the ball and run at the Hurricanes but they lose the ball. The Hurricanes try to counter attack but the Sharks kill off the attack. 

26.00: The Sharks concede a penalty for their front row collapsing. The Hurricanes kick for touch and the line out.  

29.00: The Hurricanes put the Sharks under some pressure in their 22 but the Sharks keep them out and turn the ball over and kick for touch. 

30.00: The Sharks win a line out and attack initially but then go to the boot. The Hurricanes counter attack but then pass the ball forward. 

31.00: Oosthuizen comes back on for the Sharks so they are back to 15 players. 

32.00; The Sharks win a penalty from the scrum as the Canes front row collapses. They kick for touch and the line out. 

35.00: The Sharks get the ball to the Hurricanes 5m line. The Sharks can’t get over using the forwards so they go to the boot but the ball goes out on the full. We go back for a Sharks penalty – offside. Hurricane on a warning. 

36.00: The Sharks take the line out. The Sharks win the line out but concede penalty for not releasing when the maul collapses. The Hurricanes kick for touch and the line out. 

39.00: Penalty to the Sharks on the half way line. They will take the shot at posts (Frans Steyn). 

40.00: Steyn’s kick is awful and he misses. 

It’s half time.

The Hurricanes kick off and the second half is underway. 

43.00: The Hurricanes  keep the ball in hand work the ball to the Sharks 22. They put the Sharks under pressure put their defence is solid. 

45.00: The Hurricanes continue to attack the Sharks in their half. Nonu almost gets through but there is no support and the Sharks turn the ball over. 

46.00: The Sharks counter attack and move the ball out to the wing and S’bura Sithole beats everyone to the line and scores. TRY! 

47.00: Steyn takes the conversion kick and nails it. The Sharks lead. 

51.00: The Hurricanes are keeping the ball in hand more this half and the Sharks have upped their defensive effort. Renaldo Bothma goes off for a concussion test after a knock.  

52.00: The Hurricanes win a scrum 5m out. They attack by sending Nonu through but the Sharks keep him out. The Hurricanes go again at the line and this time Reggie Goodes scores. TRY!

54.00: Brad Shields comes on and Victor Vito goes off as James Marshall adds the conversion. 

55.00: Bismarck du Plessis comes off with an injury. Nehe Milner-Skudder is also off. 

59.00: The Sharks work the ball into the Hurricanes 22. They put the Canes under pressure and the Hurricanes have to scramble. The pressure pays off as they win a penalty for not rolling away. 

60.00: The Sharks choose the line out. They win it and use the maul and drive over. We go to the TMO to check. The TMO rules that there was obstruction. No try. Hurricanes kick for touch. 

64.00: The Sharks keep up the pressure and they stretch the Hurricanes outwide by passing back in to Odwa Ndungane who goes in to score. TRY! Sharks lead. 

65.00: Frans Steyn adds the conversion. 

69.00: Penalty to the Hurricanes as Frans Steyn is caught offside. The Hurricanes will kick for posts. 

70.00: Marshall takes the kick but misses. 

72.00: The Hurricanes put the Sharks under real pressure out wide. They attack in the corner and Jeremy Thrush crashes over for the TRY! Bonus point. Ardie Savea managed to keep the ball in play while being in the air and over the line. 

73.00: Marshall misses the conversion. 

74.00: Ndungane collides with Motu Matu’u and goes down. He gets some help from the medics. Big hit. 

75.00: The Sharks are dropping like flies. They concede a penalty which gives Frans Steyn a chance to recover from a knock. Marshall slots the penalty. 

77.00: Penalty to the Hurricanes – over the top. They kick for touch. 

79.00: Penalty again to the Sharks for offside. Marshall slots it and the siren sounds. That is it. 

The Hurricanes have won.
