Dennis re-signs with Waratahs until end of 2017

Waratahs captain Dave Dennis has re-signed with Australian Rugby and the Waratahs until the end of the 2017 Super Rugby season.

Dennis has gone against the trend of experienced players leaving Australia after the Rugby world cup and instead has committed to Australian Rugby.

The Wallabies forward missed the end of the 2014 Super Rugby season and has spent much of 2015 in the second row.

In last week’s victory over the Hurricanes Dennis was selected in his favoured position of blindside flanker.

The re-signing is a big boost for incoming coach Daryl Gibson as he will lose of number of experienced players at the end of the season.

Prop Sekope Kepu, centre Adam Ashley-Cooper and wingers Peter Betham have all signed contracts abroad and the Sydney side are waiting on Israel Folau and Kurtley Beale to re-sign.

Wallabies Flanker Michael Hooper, halfback Nick Phipps, winger Rob Horne as well as props Benn Robinson and Paddy Ryan have re-signed with the Waratahs.

Incoming Head Coach Gibson said that Dennis had demonstrated considerable loyalty to the club; for which he should be commended.

“Dave’s leadership over the last three seasons has been invaluable for the team, and his re-signing just shows how committed he is to the Waratahs,” Gibson said.

“His decision to stay here signals that he is invested in the culture that we have built, and his legacy will be ensuring that the next generation of Waratahs to come through experiences the culture that brought us success.”
