London Irish sign Trayfoot from Harlequins

Aviva Premiership Rugby club London Irish have announced that they have signed back rower Joe Trayfoot from Harlequins.

Trayfoot, 23, has represented England at Under 16 and 18 levels and joined the Harlequins Academy in 2008.

Standing 6’5 and weighing 110kgs, the imposing forward has made 48 appearances for Harlequins and offers great versatility, being able to play across the back row, specialising at blindside flanker.

In 2013 he was not only nominated for LV= Cup Breakthrough Player of the Year but was also a key part of the Harlequins LV= Cup winning side.

Joe Trayfoot said,”I am really looking to joining London Irish. I had a good conversation with the rugby committee and it is clearly a very ambitious set up heading in a really promising direction. The facilities are world class and I cannot wait to get started.”

London Irish Operations Director Bob Casey said, “Joe is one of the brightest young English talents. He is a top quality player with a great work rate who we feel can add real strength to our back row.”

“He is an ambitious young player who wants to be part of our future.”

Trayfoot went through the Harlequins Academy and made his debut in the 2010/11 season. He has since gone on to make 48 appearances for the Club and has also represented England at both Under 16 and Under 18 levels.

The twenty-three year old has made a valuable contribution to the club both on and off the pitch and is a popular member of the squad.

Director of Rugby Conor O’Shea commented: “It is always a pity when you see a player move on but more so someone like Joe who has come through our Academy system and has been supported by so many people.

“However it is part of the game now and players will move for many reasons. We wish Joe well and are sure he will continue to improve as a player. “

“I also know how committed he is to finishing his Harlequins career in the manner he would want as it will always be his club” Harlequins wishes him all the best with his future playing career.
