Hurricanes hammer Blues in Super 14 opener

The Hurricanes beat the Blues by 37 points to 19. At half time the Blues looked to be fairly safe at 16 -3. The Blues made fewer mistakes to lead the Hurricanes 16-3 at halftime in the opener at Eden Park.

Ben Atiga scored the first try of the match and therefore the Super 14.

The Hurricanes came back after the half time mark and had a dream second half winning it 34-3. In the end the Hurricanes scored 5 tries to the Blues one.

Rodney So’oialo said the game being first up in the season was hard on the lungs but it was nice to be back after the last match at Murrayfield. He said that the key to their 2nd half was composure.

They had discussed it at half time and this was what turned it around for them.

McAlistair had a fairly good day with the boot and even managed to kick over a penalty in the 61st minute whilst slipping.

He did however miss another  penalty only 8 minutes later.

A penalty to the Hurricanes Holwell ended the game at 37-19 to the Hurricanes over the Blues.
