Bulls lose captain Van der Merwe for the season

Bulls captain Flip van der Merwe has been ruled out of the rest of the Super Rugby season as well as the rest of the rugby season due to injury.

Van der Merwe suffered the seaon ending knee injury in the final minutes of South Africa’s 31-30 victory over Wales in Nelspruit.

The Bulls captain went for a scan and then to see a specialist on instruction from the Springbok management on Monday and the results showed significant damage.

According to SuperSport, the specialist advised that Van der Merwe must have surgery on his posterior cruciate ligament which will rule him out for six months.

The result is that Van der Merwe will miss the rest of the year and he will only return for the 2015 Super Rugby season.
