Van der Walt to leave Cheetahs and play in France

The Cheetahs have announced that eighthman Philip van der Walt will leave the Bloemfontein Super Rugby franchise in order to play in France.

The Free-state franchise have released Van der Walt from his contract so that he can join French club Biarritz.

The result is that this will be Van der Walt’s last Super Rugby season with the Cheetahs and that he will not feature for the Free State Cheetahs in the Currie Cup.

Van der Walt’s agent Jan-Harm van Wyk said that he was happy playing in Bloemfontein but wanted to make a career move.

“I must emphasize that he is very happy at the Free State. Ultimately it was purely a career decision,” said van Wyk.

“We believe that Philip will benefit from this move.”
