Blues beat Hurricanes in Auckland

Out of the last five Super Rugby matches between the Auckland based Blues and the Wellington based Hurricanes the Wellington side have won three and the Blues two.

We are waiting for the kick off.

Ihaia West kicks off and we are underway.

0.30: The Hurricanes win an early penalty so Beauden Barrett kicks for touch and the line out.

2.00: The Blues win the Hurricanes line out. They kick high and chase but then a maul forms and the Hurricanes get the put in for a scrum.

3.00: Peter Saili goes off his feet at the breakdown so the Hurricanes have another penalty. They kick for touch again.

4.00: Hurricanes win the line out but get pushed backwards. The Hurricanes win another penalty and this one Barrett will kick for posts.

5.00: Barrett misses the penalty and the Hurricanes miss the chance to lead.

9.00: The Hurricanes win a penalty from the scrum as Reggie Goodes gets one over Charlie Faumuina. Barrett kicks for touch and the line out.

10.00: the Hurricanes win the line out, they set up the maul and Faifili Levave is driven over and he scores. TRY!

11.00: Barrett slots the conversion. In off the posts.

13.00: The Blues get a penalty back so Ihaia West takes the shot and nails it.

14.00: The Blues break out down the wing. Ma’a Nonu’s pass goes to ground off  Matt Proctor’s hand. The TMO checks to see if a try would probably have been scored. Proctor is yellow carded and a penalty try I awarded. Very harsh on the Hurricanes. West slots the conversion.

15.00: The Blues look to continue the attack but they give away a penalty. The Hurricanes kick for touch but they don’t find it so the Blues attack.

16.00: After several phases of play the Blues get the ball to Lolagi Visinia on the wing with a chip and chase and he gets to the ball and scores. TRY!

17.00: West takes the conversion kick but misses it.  

20.00; The Hurricanes work the ball into the Blues 22 by setting up a line out. They win the line out and send the ball to the backs. They get the ball to the 5m line.

21.00: The Hurricanes go through 11 phases but then concede a penalty.

23.00: The Blues kick upfield, Cory Jane kicks it back and Patrick Tuipulotu catches the ball and knocks on. The Hurricanes kick the ball upfield and the Blues then kick it into touch.

24.00: Tony Woodcock is injured. He is getting some help. He carries on. The Blues win the line out.

26.00: The Blues sustain some pressure from the Hurricanes but then they win a penalty and kick for touch.

29.00: Territory is at 72% for the Hurricanes and possession is at 61% so far.  Steven Luatua comes on for Peter Saili who is injured.

31.00: Barrett drops a pass from Cory Jane with space in front of him. The Blues win the scrum but then Ma’a Nonu passes the ball forward.

34.00:The Hurricanes enjoy some good attacking ball but then Julian Savea flip passes to Dan Coles and the ball goes to ground and knocks on.

36.00: The Blues win another penalty so they kick for touch.

37.00: The Blues win the line out and run the ball. However it goes out on the opposite side. The Hurricanes win the line out and TJ Perenara kicks upfield but Jane is offside and the Blues have a penalty.

38.00: West takes the penalty kick and misses.

39.00: Lolagi Visinia runs straight at the Hurricanes but is stopped. The Blues recycle and continue to bash away at the Hurricanes.

40.05: The siren sounds as the Hurricanes win a penalty. They run the ball.

41.00: The Blues lose the ball and then so do the Hurricanes as the ball is kicked out.
