Van der Merwe to miss Bulls match against Chiefs

The Bulls have confirmed that lock Flip van der Merwe will miss this weekend’s Super Rugby match against the current champions the Chiefs at Loftus Versfeld.

Lock Van van der Merwe’s hamstring injury kept him out of the Bulls victory over the Sharks on the weekend.

The Bulls captain had to withdraw from the Bulls squad before last week’s match after hamstring in training and team doctor Org Strauss says he will not recover in time to face the Chiefs this weekend.

Strauss said that the rest of the squad received a clean bill of health.

Dean Greyling (contusion calve, Wednesday), Deon Stegmann (SC joint sprain, Wednesday), Francois Hougaard (knee spasm, Tuesday), JJ Engelbrecht (ankle sprain, Tuesday), Bjorn Basson (stomach ailment, Tuesday) will not train today as they recover from light niggles.

Jessie Kriel (AC joint contusion, Wednesday) and Travis Ismail (quad contusion, Tuesday) will also not train with the Blue Bulls team on Monday.
