Scotland name provisional squad for Australia

Scotland have named a provisional 19-man line-up for their final Test match of the year against Australia at Murrayfield on Saturday.

Interim coach Scott Johnson has made four changes to his pack, but is waiting on the fitness of Glasgow wing Tommy Seymour before finalising his back division.

Glasgow forwards Ryan Grant and Tim Swinson come into the scrum in place of Alasdair Dickinson and Richie Gray, with Johnnie Beattie and skipper Kelly Brown taking over from Alasdair Strokosch and John Barclay in the back row.

Uncapped 22-year-old Kieran Low of London Irish is added to the list of replacements, along with Pat MacArthur, Dickinson and Euan Murray.

“A six day turn-around from one Test match to another is always a challenge and it’s one we’ll face in our opening two games of the 2014 RBS 6 Nations Championship too,” said Johnson, whose side lost 28-0 to South Africa on Sunday.

“We’re clear in what we’re trying to do at the moment, which is look at different combinations with a view to intensifying the competition for places in the team. That mantra doesn’t change, so we adhere to the plan, while dealing with injuries and while always being true to the jersey.

“Australia played some quality rugby against Ireland last weekend (winning 32-15) and we’re very much looking forward to renewing rivalry with them on Saturday.”
