Gloucester prop Wood banned for eight weeks

Gloucester prop Nick Wood has been slapped with an eight week ban for stamping on Jacques Burger’s head in an Aviva Premiership match.

Wood trampled on Burger’s head and was red carded 73 seconds into the Aviva Premiership match on Sunday between the teams.

An RFU Disciplinary Panel suspended Wood from playing between September 18 until November 12 and he is free to play again the following day.

The case was heard by a panel of Christopher Quinlan QC, Mike Curling and John Doubleday.

Thirty-year-old Wood will miss five Premiership matches and two Heineken Cup pool matches.

He will be unavailable for matches against Northampton, Newcastle, Exeter, Bath and Wasps, the European games against Perpignan and Munster, as well as an Anglo Welsh LV= Cup match against Northampton Saints.
