Blues flanker Barrett cited for stamping

Blues flanker Kane Barrett has been cited for alleged foul play on Chiefs prop Ben Tameifuna in his team’s loss to the Chiefs.

Barrett who was earlier this week named Taranaki rugby captain in the ITM Cup came into the Blues team as replacement for Steven Luatua.

Barrett was red-carded in the match after his boot came into contact with Chiefs captain Craig Clarke’s head in the 23rd minute.

However before the Clarke incident and in the 20th minute Barrett allegedley trampled on Chiefs prop Ben Tameifuna at a breakdown.

This incident is separate to the one for which he was red carded.

Barrett is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4 (b) Stamping or trampling.

Upon further review of the match footage the citing commissioner deemed in
his opinion the incident had met the red card threshold for foul play.

The citing is to be considered in the first instance by SANZAR duty judicial officer Nicholas Davidson.

All SANZAR disciplinary matters are in the first instance referred to a duty judicial officer hearing to provide the option of expediting the judicial process.

For a matter to be dispensed with at this hearing, the person appearing must plead guilty and accept the penalty offered by the duty judicial officer.
