Halfpenny wins man of the B & I Lions series

British and Irish Lions fullback Leigh Halfpenny was named man of the series after he broke the record for scoring the most most points in a test series for the British and Irish Lions.

Halfpenny’s points tally surpassed his kicking coach and fellow Welshman Neil Jenkins’ haul of 41 points in the 1997 series against South Africa.

Coming into the test with 28 points from the opening two tests, the Welsh kicker scored 14 points inside half an hour in the third test in Sydney to take his total to 42 points when he broke the record.

The fullback kicked 13 points in the first test in Brisbane, before scoring 15 points in last week’s second test in Melbourne.

Halfpenny landed five penalties and three conversions taking him to 21-points
for the match and 49 for the series – both Lions records.
