Fiji ready to spend big in France

Given the number of Fijians bought at great expense to the French league it seems only reasonable that the Pacific Island should make a token gesture in return.

And so it seems they are, after a fashion, with the Fiji team’s Rugby World Cup efforts set to cost an estimated $1.23m dollars.

“This includes the whole program for 43 days for the Pacific Nations Cup and 78 days for the Rugby World Cup,” said Fiji Rugby high performance manager Peter Murphy.

“It’s a lot of money and the budget includes both preparations and tournament days and we’ll be spending roughly $20,460 a day.”

The budget covers pretty much everything for the 30 members of the playing squad and 15 members of team management for the tournament, including win bonuses and telephone budgets.

“It’s the first time Fiji rugby is taking a large contingent as support staff and we’re quite excited about it,” continued Murphy.

“We believe we’ve selected some key people for the positions.”
