Mallinder calls on Saints fans for Exiles clash

Northampton Director of rugby Jim Mallinder has called on Saints supporters to fill Franklin’s Gardens and get behind the team as the Aviva Premiership Rugby campaign resumes against the Welsh Exiles.

The Saints headed home from Newport yesterday with a hard-earned 30-20 win over the Dragons, but there is another dragon challenge this Saturday lunchtime as London Welsh visit the Gardens for the first time in just over five years.

Welsh have been very competitive in Aviva Premiership Rugby this season, winning three of their eight matches and earning losing bonus points in another two.

With Saints still missing up to 13 players through injury or international call-up Mallinder says that the support of the fans will play a big part in getting the win on Saturday.

“It’s a very important game this weekend,” Mallinder told SaintsTV at Rodney Parade.

“London Welsh have done fantastically well this season. They’re going to come up and be looking to enjoy the game at Franklin’s Gardens.

“So what we need is a big crowd to get behind us in what is a massive game. We need to win it. We’ll have a good week this week and if we play to the best of our ability then we’ll win that game next week.”
