London Wasps sign winger Bailey & centre Masi

Former London Irish winger James Bailey has joined Aviva Premiership Rugby club London Wasps from French side Lyon ahead of the forthcoming season.

Bailey joins with solid experience in the English game under his belt with the 28-year-old previously having represented London Irish, Gloucester and Bristol.

The winger has represented England at U16, U18 and U21 level as well as playing for England Sevens on several occasions and he is the Club’s second addition from Lyon, with Lee Thomas having arrived earlier this summer.

Director of Rugby Dai Young said: “We’ve got a lot of talent in our back-three but we have been looking to add depth to our squad out wide for some time and James arrives with solid experience at this level.”

James Bailey said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my time in France but I always knew that I wanted to return to the English game at some point so I jumped at the opportunity to join such a prestigious club as London Wasps. Hopefully I can play an important role in the squad and help the Club achieve their goals.”

Bailey is the second back to sign on at the Club this week, following the announcement of the arrival of Italian centre Andrea Masi yesterday.

The 69-times capped Masi has represented Italy at three World Cups and was named the RBS Six Nations Player of the Championship in 2011, becoming the first Italian to ever win the award.

Spells at Viadana, Biarritz and Racing Metro have given Masi excellent experience in the European game, and he joins London Wasps from Aironi. He will link up with fellow Italian international Fabio Staibano who arrived at the Club earlier this summer also from Aironi.

Director of Rugby Dai Young said: “Andrea is a versatile player with proven quality and he will be bringing with him some vital experience from the highest level of the game. We are always looking to add real international quality to our squad and I see him as giving us great depth in our back-line.”

Masi added: “I am really excited and honoured to be joining such a great European club and I am hoping that I can add something to the club both on and off the field.”
