London Irish appoint new Academy Manager Clark

London Irish have appointed Billy Clark as their new Academy Manager and he will take over from Neal Hatley who has moved to Bath Rugby to become their new Forwards Coach.

Clark joins with strong coaching credentials which include early roles as Rugby Development Officer at Leicester Tigers and then Sports Development Officer in the London Borough of Richmond.

He moved back into rugby in November 2007 when he took a position with the RFU as their Age Grade Competitions Manager. In January 2011 he moved to Gloucester Rugby where he did a superb job as Junior Academy Manager.

Billy also played for the Leicester Tigers Academy from 1998 to 2003 before injury cut his career short.

Billy is charged with taking the already productive London Irish Academy to the next level. Over the last 10 years an impressive array of talent has graduated from the London Irish Academy on a conveyer belt that has included Nick Kennedy, Delon Armitage, David Paice, Topsy Ojo, Alex Corbisiero and most recently Jonathan Joseph.

London Irish Director of Rugby, Brian Smith said: “I worked with Billy at the RFU and I’ve been very impressed with the job he has done at Gloucester. He will run our whole Academy programme and be responsible for recruiting and continuing to produce prodigious talent from our Academy.”

Billy Clark said: “The London Irish Academy plays a huge role within the Club and some of the talent that has graduated out of it proves how successful it has been. “

“I aim to ensure that we continue to develop exceptional talent that is already within our Academy and EPDG programme as well as actively recruiting the best players in Hampshire and Berkshire. I look forward to working with both players and coaches when I arrive.”
