Argentina have been put back on the Sevens Rugby World circuit as one of the hosts for the first time in ten years.
The tournament in La Plata will be the second stop of 10 tournaments, on Oct. 20-21, a week after the series opens on the Gold Coast, Australia.
Argentina dropped out of the series after 2002, but returns four years out from sevens’ Olympic debut in Rio de Janeiro.
The tournament was earmarked as part of the International Rugby Board’s $13.94 million investment in Argentina and South America for 2009-12.
The series is also expanding to its most tournaments since 2002, when there were 11, a reflection of the series’ growing strength and popularity. There was a record attendance of more than 547,000 in the nine legs last season.
Following the series will be the Sevens World Cup in Moscow in June 2013.
