Lions legend McGeechan to leave Bath

British and Irish Lions legend Sir Ian McGeechan’s days with Aviva Premiership Rugby Club Bath appear to be nearing an end.

Reports on the net say that the Premiership Rugby club Bath will announce McGeechan’s departure at the end of the season later this week.

Bath’s owner Bruce Craig is a wealthy man so he is used to getting his own way and is not happy with the way the rugby club are performing.

Bath are not in the top six in the Premiership which means that they could miss out on Heineken Cup qualification despite some big signings such as World Cup winning fly half Stephen Donald.

Rumours about McGeechan’s replacement as Director of Rugby have already started swirling with Nick Mallett, Gary Gold, Mike Catt and Toby Booth all being linked to the job early on.

However the strongest link to the job is former Springbok forwards coach Gary Gold who has impressed at Newcastle Falcons even though they are still highly likely to be relegated.
