Stormers vs Bulls Super Rugby preview

The Stormers are the only Super Rugby team left this season to have an unbeaten status and they are also the only team with no bonus points.

The Stormers have 20 points on the Super Rugby table and the Bulls have 19 points but putting things into perspective in the bigger Super Rugby picture neither side has played a match yet outside of South Africa.

The Stormers have scored just seven tries so far while the Bulls – a little thanks to last week’s Reds hammering – have scored 17 tries so far.

Interestingly the Stormers and the Bulls have the most points on the Super Rugby table and they also have conceded the least points so this match should be all about defence.

The Stormers and the Bulls have played each other 16 times and the Stormers have won 8 times. They have also drawn once and lost seven times.

On average when the Stormers play the Bulls they score 23 points and the Bulls score 20 points.

In Cape Town the teams have played each other 8 times and the Stormers have won four times and lost four times – and drawn once.

It should not be forgotten that the Bulls effectively threw a match in 2010 by resting 14 out of 15 players in their final Super 14 round match to keep players fresh for the finals.

Removing that result means that the Bulls have a 50/50 record in Cape Town which shows they don’t mind travelling to the “mother city”.

In selection terms the Stormers have beefed up their pack for this match while the Bulls have retained their starting line up.

The Bookies have given the Bulls 5 point start for this match – with an offer of Bet 5 and Get 50 in Bets. We think the match will be a close one. The Bulls showed they have their ruthless streak back last week while the Stormers showed some vulnerabilities against the Lions. We are going against the bookies on this one. The Bulls should snatch this one by 2 points.

This match will be shown on TV in NZ, Aus, SA and in the UK on the Sky Sports website.
