Cheetahs suffer big Currie Cup front row blow

The Free State Cheetahs have suffered a big blow to their Currie Cup hopes as prop Coenie Oosthuizen has been ruled out for the rest of season.

Oosthuizen injured his neck playing last weekend in the 25-25 draw with the Lions and the Volksblad newspaper have reported that he will be out of action for around four months.

The paper reports that Oosthuizen is expected to undergo surgery on Tuesday in Bloemfontein.

Cheetahs team doctor, Ian Morris, told Volksblad that Oosthuizen injured a cushion in his vertebrae which is similar to an injury suffered by Springbok captain John Smit.

The prop is only expected to return to action in next year’s Super Rugby tournament which starts in February.
