Rebels vs Hurricanes Super Rugby Preview

The Rebels have never played the Hurricanes before so it’s difficult to predict how their styles of play will perform against each other.

It is even more difficult when you consider the form of both teams. The Rebels in particular have had “flip-flop” form as they have alternated form week by week.

In Round the Rebels were soundly beaten and then in week two they beat the Brumbies.

In their third Round match they were soundly beaten again by the Chiefs only to return home and run the Sharks very close. Then last week, against the Reds we saw arguably their worst performance yet.

The Hurricanes have not gone terribly well this season either as they lost their opening match to the Highlanders. Their second Round match was called a draw. In the third round the Chiefs looked like they had the beating of the Hurricanes but the Canes surged in the second half and stole the result.

Then, like the Rebels last weekend, the Hurricanes were well off when they lost 41-17 to the Blues in Auckland.

Historically the Hurricanes have done quite well in Australia having won 57.7 of their matches. Out of 52 matches in Australia they have won 30 and lost 22.

The Hurricanes have named an unchanged team for this week and the Rebels have been able to bring Michael Lipman back from injury.

The one trend that appears to be forming with the Rebels is that after they got over their first home loss their home form has been considerably better than their away form. This suggests that if the Hurricanes go quite well in Australia and the Rebels play better at home then the match should be relatively close.

The Bookies have given the Bookies don’t really see it the same way as as us they have given the Rebels a 12 point start – they have an offer of Bet 10 and Get 20. We think it will be closer and the Hurricanes should win by 7.
