Toulon confirm Gavin Henson signing in France

Wales grand slam winner Gavin Henson has signed a contract with Top 14 Rugby
club Toulon after leaving Saracens yesterday.

Henson has been signed as a ‘medical joker’ for Clement Marienval who has been
ruled out due to injury for the rest of the season.

Toulon confirmed Henson’s signing after a secret meeting with Toulon bosses
on Wednesday.

Late yesterday the Wales international asked to be released from his contract
with Saracens with immediate effect.

Saracens agreed to the request which allows Henson to pursue his career in
French rugby.

Chairman Nigel Wray said: “We wish Gavin all the best for the future as
he continues his return to the highest level of the game.”

Henson won the Six Nations Grand Slam in 2005 and 2008 with Wales and scored
133 for his country.

In 2005 he also played on the British and Irish Lions tour of New Zealand.

Henson played just four games with Saracens with one start. While he was called
up for medical Tests with Wales last month he missed out on being called up
for the Six Nations as he was injured after the tests.

Henson is likely to provide cover at flyhalf for Toulon in the absence of Jonny
Wilkinson who is with England and also for Argentina back Felipe Contepomi who
is currently injured.
