Toulouse secure bonus point Glasgow victory

Toulouse climbed back to the top of Pool 6 after an emphatic 36-10 win over Glasgow on Tuesday in a match held over from Friday after the Scottish club’s luggage was held up in London by the arctic snap.

Toulouse enhanced their winning run to four from four to lead their table by two points from Wasps, who defeated Newport 37-10 on Sunday.

The last time Glasgow visited the home of the reigning champions, in 2009, they recorded one of the biggest shocks in Europe with a 33-26 victory. But the four-times winners of the competition ensured history was not repeated.

Toulouse, who earned their first bonus point of the campaign, were camped inside Glasgow’s 22 yard line, and after Louis Picamoles’ try was disallowed by the video judge, they took control with a superb solo effort by Maxime Medard in the tenth minute.

David Skrela converted to give his side a 7-0 lead.

A ferocious battle erupted when the two sets of forwards locked horns resulting in Glasgow second rower Richie Gray getting a spell in the sin bin from Irish referee George Clancy.

Toulouse led 14-3 after 22 minutes thanks to a second cross over from Virgile Lacombe, converted by Skrela, before Picamoles had a second try disallowed by video evidence.

Glasgow held together and got the score back to 14-11 on the 44th minute after DTH van der Merwe’s try which Ruaridh Jackson converted the solo effort to bring Glasgow within four points.

Toulouse refused to panic and pulled 24-10 clear by the 56th minute courtesy of second half substitute Clemont Poitrenaud, converted by Skrela from the touchline.

Intent on grabbing their first bonus point they were duly rewarded when Thierry Dusautoir crossed over in the 65th minute before Vincent Clerc got Toulouse’s fifth try of the game and his 31st in the European Cup.
