Snow forces Aviva Premiership postponement

The Newcastle Falcons versus Bath Rugby match in Aviva Premiership Rugby round ten, originally scheduled for Friday 3rd December 2010, has been postponed.

Premiership Rugby has invested significantly in pitch protection, but with more snow overnight in Newcastle, in addition to concerns about the pitch there is now significant concern about the safety of the spectator areas.

With an additional five centimetres of snow forecast for Newcastle this evening, an early postponement was considered the best option to avoid unnecessary travelling for supporters, players and the officials.

Having looked at the weather forecast and with pitch protection systems in place at the other grounds, further postponements (for matches at Headingley Carnegie, Edgeley Park, the Madejski Stadium, Vicarage Road and Adams Park) are not anticipated.

Meanwhile Sale Sharks have asked for help as they are desperately trying to clear the pitch and perimeter of snow and need some helpers to assist the groundstaff.

If you have some time on your hands this afternoon (Wednesday) please call Dave Swanton at the ground on 0161-286-8915.
