Cau Cau signs for Heineken Cup champions

Fijian three quarter Rupeni Caucaunibuca ended his troubled spell at Top 14 side Agen on Sunday as he signed for European champions Toulouse, the buying club’s manager Guy Noves announced.

The 30-year-old – who has been bought in as a replacement for injured centre Yann David – had been at Agen since 2004 but his six years there had been littered with disciplinary problems.

“The Agen president signed the agreement yesterday,” announced Noves after his side had defeated Wasps in their opening European Cup fixture on Sunday.

“He (the Agen president) is not in the habit of Toulouse releasing information before the matter has been entirely wrapped up.”

Caucaunibuca had been approached by several Top 14 clubs including Castres who were keen to sign the talented Fijian when Agen informed him that his latest infraction in turning up late for pre-season training on September 6 would result in them terminating his contract.

This final break comes after prolonged absences, suspensions for among other offences testing positive for cannabis, or diverse other problems such as lack of form, injuries or being overweight.

However, Toulouse hope that he will feel more settled with them especially as they already have another talented Fijian back in their squad in the shape of former Clermont winger Vilimoni Delasau.
