Sharks get Bismarck du Plessis Currie Cup boost

The Sharks have been boosted by the return of Bismarck du Plessis albeit on the bench for their Currie Cup rugby clash against the Lions.

As expected Patrick Lambie has been named at flyhalf in place of the injured duo of Steve Meyer and Ruan Pienaar.

“Its an opportunity for Pat to see what he can do at flyhalf and one we’re very excited about, as is he,” explained Sharks coach John Plumtree on the Sharks site.

he front row features Jannie du Plessis and Beast Mtawarira starting at tighthead and loosehead prop respectively, Plumtree said that: “I’m not expecting to have them for next week”

“It is a good opportunity to use them for this game and an opportunity for them to play well ahead of Springbok selection (for the home leg of the Tri-Nations). We’re expecting a lot from the Lions pack, we’re anticipating a big challenge.”

Andries Strauss comes in at centre where Lambie played last week while Willem Alberts, completely over his ankle injury, slots in at the flank with Jacques Botes taking a well-earned breather.

On the composition of his loose trio, The Sharks coach explained that, “People are looking at what I do with five loosies.

“Jean Deysel is back from injury, Willem Alberts has had two runs off the bench and he’s also ready to go while Keegan Daniel is in the form of his life.

“He’s been outstanding, such a threat with and without the ball. Good on him, he’s really enjoying his rugby. I have some choices to make and with different players, the challenge is how you formulate that to make the right blend.”

“We’ve had a really good week’s preparation, better than last week because we’ve had the Boks for two weeks now. “

“The Lions have a lot of respect for them, but they themselves have improved over the course of this campaign and we’re expecting a big contest from them.”
