Bath slip past Saracens

Bath squeezed past Saracens 16-14 in their Guinness Premiership tie at Vicarage Road on Sunday, moving up to sixth place on the table.

Ryan Davis slotted a penalty in the third minute to give Bath the early lead, but his opposite number Derick Hougaard responded 14 minutes later to level matters.

Sarries took the lead for the first time in the 23rd minute thanks to South African Wikus van Heerden, who scored the opening try to make it 8-3.

Davis reduced the deficit to two points with his second penalty, which Hougaard negated shortly thereafter, before kicking his third to take the teams to the interval at 11-9 to the hosts.

Bath surged ahead after the break with a penalty try and conversion, but Hougaard kept Sarries in touch with his third three-pointer.

Despite their best efforts Sarries were unable to break down the Bath defence inthe final stages and the visitors snatched the four points.
