Northampton bite Leicester Tigers in LV=Cup

Northampton Saints ran out 23-11 victors over Leicester Tigers at Franklin’s Gardens on Saturday, making sure their run in the Anglo Welsh LV= Cup group stages continued unabated.

Saints got off to the better start in front of their home fans, with Paul Diggin scoring the opening try in the second minute.

Flyhalf Stephen Myler added the extras to set the score to 7-0. Tigers pulled three points back in the 16th minute when Billy Twelvetrees slotted a penalty.

Alan Dickens stretched the score for the home side in the 19th minute with another try, which Myler also converted to make it 14-3.


Twelvetrees scored his side’s first and only try in the 26th minute, but Sam Vesty missed the conversion to leave the score on 14-8.


Myler added to the Saints’ score soon after the break when he kicked a penalty in the 44th minute, and then further extended matters with another place kick in the 52nd minute.


Twelvetrees slotted a penalty in the 60th minute to make it 20-11.

Barry Everitt then added one more penalty for Saints on the stroke of full time to secure the win in proper fashion.
