Fortuin to retain SWD Eagles captaincy

Springbok fullback Bevin Fortuin has retained the captaincy of the South Western District Eagles for the upcoming rugby season and his captaincy has been confirmed by coach Johann Lerm.

“Yes, Bevin will lead us again this season. He is experienced, a team man and popular amongst his team-mates.

“I believe he is the best man for the job,” Lerm said.

Fortuin, however, is nursing a leg injury and will only return to action in a month’s time.

He will therefore not be available for the friendly matches against Griquas on February 10 at Oudtshoorn, and against Western Province on February 13 at Swellendam.

Also sidelined for these two encounters are Springbok flyhalf Gaffie du Toit and lock Giant Mtyanda.

Good news for Lerm is flyhalf Ricardo Croy, who had a stormer of a season in 2009, has recovered fully and is training with the side.
