Hartley to hit 100 against Treviso

Northampton Saints club captain Dylan Hartley will reach a century of appearances in the black, green and gold when he leads the team out at Treviso tomorrow afternoon.

Hartley has reached the landmark despite being just 23 years of age.

He is in his fifth season at Franklin’s Gardens and has scored nine tries.

His debut came in the opening Guinness Premiership match of the 2005/06 season, away at Leicester Tigers, and his hundredth appearance will also come away from the Gardens, this time in the Heineken Cup trip to the Stadio Comunale di Monigo.

Director of rugby Jim Mallinder today congratulated Hartley on reaching the milestone.

“Dylan has matured a lot over the past couple of years and this has been helped by his continued exposure to Heineken Cup and Guinness Premiership rugby,” he said.

“He is still young for a front row forward and has a lot of rugby to play in his career.

“Dylan has led the team superbly so far this season and he will have to do so again tomorrow.

“This weekend is important if we want to go into rounds five and six with a chance of qualifying for the quarter finals. We need to win, simple as that.

“Treviso have won their only home Heineken Cup game so far, and were very competitive last weekend here in Northampton.

“Our away record has improved this season but it will come under a lot of pressure in Italy tomorrow. “

“Nevertheless it will be a good experience for us.”

“We’ve been told it will be cold and probably snowing, so there will be tricky conditions.

“We have got to win the game first and that is what we are aiming at.”
