Saints end Saracens unbeaten run in LV=Cup

Northampton dominated from start to finish as they romped to a 19-3 victory over Saracens in the LV=Cup on Saturday.

The loss was Saracens first loss all season across all tournaments.

The visitors opened the scoring through Alex Goode’s penalty kick 20 minutes in, but Chris Ashton crossed the line four minutes later to put Northampton in front, although Stephen Myler was unable to convert his kick.

Sarries made life tough for themselves just before the break as Tom Mercey was sent to the sin-bin, and the Saints took full advantage, with Myler making up for his earlier miss, kicking home a penalty on the stroke of half-time.

The fly-half added his second penalty shortly after the restart, and Bruce Reihana crossed the line just before the hour mark to give the hosts a commanding lead.

The Saints continued to boss the game, and Myler added his third penalty three minutes from time to ensure the hosts victory.
