Croy returns for Currie Cup’s Eagles at 10

Ricardo Croy is back at flyhalf for the South Western District Eagles for Saturday’s First Division rugby match against the Valke in Kempton Park.

He replaces former Springbok flyhalf Gaffie du Toit, who gets a well-deserved rest.

“Gaffie has a few niggles and therefore I have decided to rest him for our last match against the EP Elephants at Outeniqua Park on October 3,” coach Johann Lerm said.

Loosehead prop Jaco Terblanche is also out with a mouth injury, but in Brood van der Westhuizen Lerm has a prop with plenty of experience. Lerm said a five pointer against the Valke is not negotiable.

“If we get five we only need to beat EP in our last match to end second on the log,” he said.

But then SWD will have to hold thumbs that the Griffons do not beat the Pumas in Welkom on October 3.

The SWD team is:

Bobby Joubert, Norman Nelson, Jandré du Plessis, Izak Saayman, Baldwin McBean, Ricardo Croy, Dougie Hellmuth, Jody Burch, Jacques Engelbrecht, Victor Joubert, Henry Grimes, Wikus Liebenberg, Wikus Harmse, Wayne Bennett (capt), Brood van der Westhuizen.

Replacements: Junior Leota, Tiaan de Kock, Ashton Constant, Giant Mtyanda, Mzo Dyanti, Bevin Fortuin, Jano van Zyl
