Eagles cruise to victory against Valke

The Eagles enjoyed their best 40 minutes of the season in the first half against the Valke in George to lead 40-0 in their 47-15 victory over the visitors.

The Valke’s flanker Reg Muller scored a hat-trick as the Valke played most of the rugby after the break when the Eagles coach gave most of his key-players a rest.

The Eagles broke their try drought and flanker Shaun Raubenheimer and winger Norman Nelson each scored a brace in their seven try victory.

Everything went according to plan for the South Western Districts and they were on the scoreboard within eight minutes when Nelson scored the first of his tries and just after the 10th minute Jandré Blom scored his.

Man of the Match, loosehead Brood van der Westhuizen also got onto the scoreboard and after 20 minutes the home side were up 19-zip. Flanker Shaun Raubenheimer scored his first five minutes later.

When three Valke players won themselves a yellow card each in the next few minutes, the Eagles capitalised with a penalty try and they pushed the score up to 40-0.

It was game, set and match at that stage. In the 41st minute, Valke flanker Bradley Fortuin received his second yellow card and hooker Tango Gatya also received a yellow card.

This meant that the Valke played another ten minutes with only 13 on the field. Five yellow cards effectively cost the Valke the match.
