Eagles Currie Cup prop worries all but over

South Western District Eagles rugby coach Johann Lerm, expects his front row crisis to be something of the past ahead of their  Currie Cup First Division rugby match against the Pumas at Witbank on Friday.

“All the niggles seem to be sorted out. Wikus Harmse is training flat out, while Tiaan Joubert and Jaco Terblanche should be cleared by the medical team Monday,” Lerm said.

“It is a huge relief on the eve of such a vital encounter. I have a lot of respect for the Pumas – especially on their home ground where they can be very dangerous.”

The Pumas and the Eagles are the only unbeaten sides so far. The Pumas are in second place on the log with nine points after two matches, while SWD have eignt – also after two matches.

Lerm alco confirmed former Border Bulldog centre, Selithemba Zweni – one of the real speedters in SA rugby – could make his squad of 22 players for the trip to the North. Zweni has been out of action for some time, but is back with a lot of confidence.

“Zweni looks in good shape again and could force his way into our squad again,” Lerm said.

Zweni is also at home on the wing and that makes him a valuable player against the Pumas. Lerm is expected to name his side on Tuesday.

Two newcomers, hooker Junior Leota and No 8 Jody Burch, are also set to make their SWD debut in Witbank.
