Boks make two changes for Edinburgh 7’s

Springbok Sevens coach Paul Treu has made two changes to his team for this weekend’s Edinburgh Sevens, the final stop in the International Rugby Board’s World Sevens Series for 2008/09.

The experienced Marius Schoeman, who is set to retire after this tournament, and Paul Delport have been included in the South African team as they prepare to clinch the title. The duo replace Robert Ebersohn and Chase Minnaar.

Ebersohn has been released by Treu to captain the South African Under-20 team at the IRB’s Junior World Championship in Japan.

The Springbok Sevens team needs one more point in Edinburgh to claim this season’s title. England can still draw level with the South Africans, but for that to happen, the English must win the tournament at Murrayfield while Treu’s team can’t get a single log point – something that has never happened.

“I’m confident that we can achieve our goal,” Treu said.

“The two new players are experienced and have been training with us the whole season .

“Everyone is motivated and focussed on the task at hand, and that is to progress to the Cup quarter-finals after our three games on Saturday,” said Treu.

Should South Africa and England finish level on 116 points, the team with the best points difference will claim the title.

According to Treu, his side is well ahead of the English in this department.

The SA Sevens Team for Edinburgh is:

Mpho Mbiyozo, Marius Schoeman, Frankie Horne, Vuyo Zangqa, Philip Snyman, Kyle Brown, Paul Delport, Ryno Benjamin, Gio Aplon, Mzwandile Stick (captain), Neil Powell, Renfred Dazel.
