Four sign new Warriors deals

Worcester Warriors have revealed that Academy products Callum Black, Jonny Arr, Charlie Fellows and Jordan Page have all committed their futures to the club by signing new deals.

Home-grown ace Black, who has burst onto the first team scene in recent weeks and made 15 senior appearances in total, has penned a two-year deal to remain at Sixways Stadium until 2011.

Scrum half Arr, wing Fellows and hooker Page, who have also come through the Academy ranks at Sixways Stadium, have all agreed one-year deals.

Black was a pupil at Colston’s School in Bristol before he was recruited to Hartpury College by current Warriors Academy Manager Andrew Stanley. The 23-year -old, born in Maryland in the USA, is currently completing his fourth season at Worcester and has represented Ireland at Under 18s, 19s and 21s.

“Callum Black has recently made some excellent progress and has featured in the senior team in wins over Gloucester and Saracens” said Director of Rugby Mike Ruddock.

“He is the modern prop in every sense of the word and is very dedicated, skilful, mobile and professional. Callum has been prepared to go out on loan to Otley and Plymouth this season in order to gain much needed experience at the coal-face. With his dedicated I’m sure he has a big future at the Warriors.”

Scrum half Jonny Arr, 20, a former Royal Grammar School student, made his first team debut last year against London Irish in the EDF Energy Cup in December.

A product of the club’s thriving mini/junior set-up, Arr also won international honours last season as he was in action for England at Under 20s level, successful achieving the Grand Slam in the Six Nations.

“Jonny Arr is a fine young player and like I have mentioned before he reminds me of a young Robert Jones and I believe it will not be too long before we see him more often in the first team. I’m delighted he is on board for next season,” said Ruddock.

Wing Charlie Fellows, 23, is the latest player to rise through the ranks all the way to the full-time Academy, having started his rugby in the mini/junior set-up. The former Kings School Worcester student made his full Guinness Premiership debut this season against Harlequins at Sixways Stadium.

Hooker Page, 22, has made two senior appearances for the senior team and recently came off the bench in the Guinness Premiership away game at Harlequins in London.

“Andrew Stanley and Gary Meechan continue to run a fantastic Academy programme at the club and these players coming through and signing deals show how we are benefitting,” added Ruddock.

“Jordan Page and Charlie Fellows are fine young players who have both earned themselves one-year contracts as they continue to develop from Academy stars into regular first team players. They are both dedicated to the goal of senior rugby and we are looking to support them over the next 12 months.”
