Northampton Saints demolish Sale Sharks

Northampton Saints demolished Sale Sharks 38-3 in their Guinness Premiership encounter played at Franklins Gardens on Saturday.

Barry Everitt kicked the Saints ahead with a successful penalty in the fourth minute and added another 17 minutes later to extend his side’s lead to six points.

The Sharks were on the score-board for the first time in the 25th minute thanks to Charlie Hodgson, who knocked over a drop-goal to reduce the deficit to three points.

However, the rest of the opening half belonged to the hosts who racked-up 13 more points before the interval. Paul Diggin crossed the try-line in the 30th minute and Everitt converted to open up a 10-point lead, before the fly-half slotted two more penalties to take the teams to the dressing-rooms at 19-3.

The first points of the second-half came in the 56th minute when Ben Foden scored The Saints’ second try and Stephen Myler converted to end the Sharks’ hopes of a comeback.

Northampton kept piling on the pressure despite their massive lead and were rewarded with their third try as Roger Wilson slid over and Myler converted to put the hosts 30 points clear.

The humiliation was complete when James Downey scored the fourth try for Saints in stoppage time moving them up to seventh on the Premiership table.
