Mallett trims Italy squad for Wales clash

Italy coach Nick Mallet on Tuesday dropped six players from his squad to face Wales in their penultimate Six Nations game in Rome at the weekend.

Out of contention for Saturday’s meeting with the defending champions are wingers Andrea Bacchetti and Michele Sepe, backrow forward Simone Favaro, second row forwards Tommaso Reato and Jean-Francois Montauriol and flyhalf Kristopher Burton.

Mallet will name his team on Thursday.

Italy have lost their first three games against England (36-11), Ireland (9-38) and Scotland (26-6).

Their final game is against France in Paris on March 21.
