Waratahs Arrive in Kimberley

The HSBC Waratahs have arrived in South Africa’s famous diamond mining centre of Kimberley.

The Waratahs will play the Cheetahs in the third and final match of their South African tour on Saturday afternoon (Sunday morning Sydney time).

“This is a big game for us after spitting the first two against the Lions and the Sharks,” said HSBC Waratahs head coach Ewen McKenzie.

“We’ve checked out the training facilities and the venue for Saturday and it’s got a lot of charm and character about it. You can certainly see why the players out here are so big and tough.

“I jumped on the scrum machine and discovered that it’s actually railway line welded together. The local guys here said they’d tow it into place if we’d like to use it.

“I might take up that offer,” McKenzie added.

McKenzie also revealed that the team went through a detailed discussion period upon arriving in Kimberley.

“The players had a pretty frank and open discussion about Friday’s game in Durban and they know what they have to do this week to get back on track.”

The HSBC Waratahs line-up is expected to be released on Wednesday.
