Haskell high on Ospreys shopping list

The Ospreys are said to be interested in bringing London Wasps and England 6ft 4in back-row James Haskell to the Welsh region, according to BBC Wales’ Scrum V programme.

Twenty Three year old Haskell has been tipped as a future England captain and comes out of contract with Wasps in the summer.

Haskell is a hot property at present as fellow Premiership rivals Sale Sharks are also said to be interested in signing Haskell in order to replace Sebastien Chabal who will leave the club at the end of the season to play in France.

French giants Toulouse, Stade Francais, Bath and Saracens are also said to be interested in signing Haskell.

The Ospreys are looking for a replacement player for former All Black Filo Tiatia who has been promoted to player-coach.

If the Ospreys were to sign Haskell it would be something of a rarity as very few English players ply their trade in Wales.

Haskell’s club colleagues Danny Cipriani, Tom Rees, Riki Flutey and Dave Walder have also yet to agree new contracts with Wasps.

Shortly before Christmas Wasps owner Steve Hayes offered 19 members of his squad who are out of contract at the end of this season take-it-or-leave-it deals.
