Muir waits on his injured Sharks

Sharks coach Dick Muir has named his squad for the Super 14 clash against the Waratahs at ABSA Stadium on Friday, however injuries have prevented the former Bok centre from naming a starting line-up.

“We have one or two injury concerns,” Muir told the official Sharks website.

Springboks Ruan Pienaar and BJ Botha along with centre Waylon Murray are all on the ‘possible’ list, as well as wing Odwa Ndungane – who is still officially ruled out after sustaining an ankle injury in the warm-up match against the Cheetahs a fortnight ago.

“There is a small possibility that Waylon won’t make it, but he’s 80-20,” explained Muir.

Pienaar and Botha are both suffering with their hamstrings, and Murray has an ankle concern.

“With Ruan, the later we leave it, the more of a the chance we are taking, and as the campaign is a long one, we won’t take a chance with him,” admitted Muir.

The Sharks kicked-off their Super 14 campaign with a hard fought 17-3 victory over the Bulls last week, while the Waratahs managed to hold off the Lions to win 25-16 away from home.

Muir confirmed that Springbok lock Johan Ackermann has recovered from his calf injury and should be ready for next week’s match against the Highlanders.

Returning Bok star Bobby Skinstad has not been included in the squad and will play for the Wildebeest against Border in the warm-up match.
